From the chair prize Inhabiting the landscape: art meets life
As part of the new chair created in 2020 " Inhabiting the landscape : art meets living " , a prize and an achievement crown the training. The winner, Clarisse Aïn, a 4th year student of the School (Ann Veronika Janssens and Hicham Berrada workshop) receives an endowment of €10,000 in royalties and up to €50,000 for the production of her work and its installation at the Colle Noire in Spring 2022.
This first year of training allowed all students to compete to achieve a particularly professionalizing full-scale exercise. From 40 entries received, 11 proposals were shortlisted and exhibited in the Chapelle des Beaux-Arts in May 2021.
An international jury auditioned the 11 finalists, then 3 nominees, and awarded Clarisse Aïn the first prize, which allows her to design a perennial work for the gardens of the Provençal castle , Christian Dior's last residence (near Grasse, in the Alpes Maritimes).
Jury : The international jury is chaired by the artist Giuseppe Penone and includes the artist Gloria Friedmann, the director of the Beaux-Arts de Paris Jean de Loisy, the director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz Chiara Parisi, Jérôme Pulis, director of international communications Christian Dior Parfums, the landscape architect Bas Smets and Estelle Zhong-Mengual, head of the " Inhabiting the Landscape " chair at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and art historian.
The work : Clarisse Aïn has imagined an installation integrating the sound waves generated by nature. She was inspired by studies according to which certain sound frequencies, between 150 and 432HZ, would have the specificity of activating the chlorophyll system of plants and promoting their growth as well as their healing. Two large metal tuning forks will notably capture the vibrations generated by the wind and transmit the waves thus generated to the organized nature at their feet.
The visitor will thus see a scrubland, a portion of wild nature reintroduced within the meadow, thrive under the effect of vibratory waves.
