The eighth episode of our collaboration with the Beaux-Arts de Paris, L'Avancée presents for four weeks the work of Lena Long, a student at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the Dominique Figarella studio.
Through painting, Lena Long captures a pivotal moment between childhood and adolescence that is difficult to define. This passage is endlessly replayed in the frame of the stretcher, through a matt material and acidulous colours.
"I paint packaging, over-decorated cakes, fragile architectures, plastic worlds... Fast food and games are instant and regressive pleasures. They belong as much to the comforting as to the end of human time. One oscillates between tenderness and a bittersweet observation. My affection goes to the end of childhood and the beginning of adolescence. For me, it embodies the threshold of violence - psychological, economic, climatic. By extracting and appropriating the forces and impulses of adolescence, capitalism regenerates itself. The inflatable, swollen, fluorescent, plastic, dazzling forms are those of this regime. Yet it is also the time of sororities and primaverism. It is these forces and forms that I seek to paint - the place of all these powers."
On the occasion of the opening, the artist Tristan Brundler will give a musical performance.
Tristan Brundler lives and works in Brussels.
A multidisciplinary artist, Brundler studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. He questions contemporary poetry through multiple materials and forms: sound, video, sculpture and installation.
Tristan Brundler makes music in the same way as he sculpts: by shaping voices, empty landscapes, organic forms, interweaving plastic and vegetation to create places with dimensions that can be trodden on and crossed. He goes through stages of recovery, deconstruction, reassembly and fusion of sound materials. Tristan Brundler's music meets his sculptural desire: the creation of places, atmospheres and poetry. Oscillating between electronic violence and mental sweetness.
